Book of Philippians, letter to the Philippians.... The Lord has placed in my heart the desire to spend some time with you going over this letter. It’s a short letter, but what a beautiful, deep expression of Paul’s spiritual outlook and of his relationship with Jesus Christ and there is so much there to call us into a greater walk with the Lord and as we make that journey you will begin to see what a beautiful, beautiful letter. It’s a little jewel of 4 chapters but it certainly has a huge amount of contents and of a spiritual encouragement.  Read More »

All right, let’s go to the word immediately, and I’d like to invite you to come with me to the Book of Mark, the gospel according to Mark. Actually these were some thoughts that I has going to share with… let’s go to chapter 6, by the way, beginning with verse 30. I was going to share some of these thoughts at the last session of our retreat as a parts of a visioning kind of thing and didn’t get the chance because we had a lot of other material to go through, but I’d like to share about this passage in terms of a, what kind of church do we want to be? God’s faithfulness. I don’t remember which chorus it was, but it was one that speaks of the faithfulness of Jesus and of God and his standing with us every step of the way, his support for us, his never ending ownership of our lives and of our process of salvation, the journey of salvation, that assurance that we have in God. I want to flow with that theme so I changed and I believe this is a spirit lead my topic and I want to….. let’s go to the book of Romans, chapter 8, I think it’s a good place to begin. As we celebrate the Lord, as we’ve exalted him, we’ve worshiped him because of his goodness, his faithfulness, his mercy, his steadfast love us. It’s so good to take that opportunity also to see where the grounding, the scriptural grounding of what we have just proclaimed here, where it lies and to reinforce in us that sense of assurance, of God’s goodness. So, chapter 8 of Romans stands in my mind as the essential document, if you will, of the assurance of every believer, the foundation that we have of confidence in the Lord, in our calling as believers.  Read More »

I was recently visiting Memphis, Tennessee. I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, my family is there, my parents are there, my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, I got to see a lot of people, but to my surprise one person I didn’t expect to see that I did see was a friend, Matt Daniels. Now, Matt is a missionary in Montevideo, Uruguay, so he was up in Memphis visiting his family. His dad actually is sick but it provided an opportunity for he and I to get together and just be friends again. I hadn’t seen him in probably 4 four years, but he used to be a very special person in my life. He was somewhat of a mentor for me and helped as I was growing in my faith and growing in ministry and all the other things that are wrapped up in that.
