Sermon March 8, 2008 : Fighting for the land beyond your own backyard
Let’s go to the word of the Lord and quickly run through a passage which, I believe, you know, after I started thinking about this passage I really think that this sermon my have a prophetic dimension to it and I’ll explain why in a moment, but the more I started thinking about it, and it’s, by the way, Luke Chapter 13, beginning with verse 10.

Sermon September 8, 2007 : How do you perceive life?
We’ve entered this journey of studying Philippians, the letter to the Philippians and we’re about in our third sermon, I guess, and I know I have been blessed, even as I have explored it from up here, in all kinds of insights have emerged, even standing here, and things that I didn’t even see clearly as I studied this passages, have emerged in a wonderful, spontaneous and I believe, spirit-lead sort of way.

Sermon August 25, 2007 : Learn to love God with all your heart
Book of Philippians, letter to the Philippians.... The Lord has placed in my heart the desire to spend some time with you going over this letter. It’s a short letter, but what a beautiful, deep expression of Paul’s spiritual outlook and of his relationship with Jesus Christ and there is so much there to call us into a greater walk with the Lord and as we make that journey you will begin to see what a beautiful, beautiful letter. It’s a little jewel of 4 chapters but it certainly has a huge amount of contents and of a spiritual encouragement.

Sermon August 18, 2007 : Is Jesus shining through you?
For any good thing that comes out of my life, because I know that it’s not me, I can only thank the Lord for his incredible mercy that he would allow me to be an instrument, that I would somehow serve to encourage someone, to be an example to someone, to be a source of teaching or illumination to anyone, because God has deigned to use me.

Sermon August 11, 2007 : Come to the party and enjoy God’s love
We’ll be looking at Luke 15. The pastor spoke from this a few weeks ago and so we’ll be following up on where he started. Luke 15, if you’re not there, just listen closely, Luke 15, and I’m going to start by reading the first couple of verses, because they set the tone for the whole chapter, ok, Luke 15, verse 1 and 2, it says:

Sermon August 4, 2007 : Yoked to Jesus
All right, let’s go to the word immediately, and I’d like to invite you to come with me to the Book of Mark, the gospel according to Mark. Actually these were some thoughts that I has going to share with… let’s go to chapter 6, by the way, beginning with verse 30. I was going to share some of these thoughts at the last session of our retreat as a parts of a visioning kind of thing and didn’t get the chance because we had a lot of other material to go through, but I’d like to share about this passage in terms of a, what kind of church do we want to be? What kind of church God needs in this time of history and in this place, in this city? What kind of people do we want to be?

Sermon July 28, 2007 : God is faithful
God’s faithfulness. I don’t remember which chorus it was, but it was one that speaks of the faithfulness of Jesus and of God and his standing with us every step of the way, his support for us, his never ending ownership of our lives and of our process of salvation, the journey of salvation, that assurance that we have in God. I want to flow with that theme so I changed and I believe this is a spirit lead my topic and I want to….. let’s go to the book of Romans, chapter 8, I think it’s a good place to begin. As we celebrate the Lord, as we’ve exalted him, we’ve worshiped him because of his goodness, his faithfulness, his mercy, his steadfast love us. It’s so good to take that opportunity also to see where the grounding, the scriptural grounding of what we have just proclaimed here, where it lies and to reinforce in us that sense of assurance, of God’s goodness. So, chapter 8 of Romans stands in my mind as the essential document, if you will, of the assurance of every believer, the foundation that we have of confidence in the Lord, in our calling as believers.

Sermon July 21, 2007 : Do you have access to God?
I was recently visiting Memphis, Tennessee. I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, my family is there, my parents are there, my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, I got to see a lot of people, but to my surprise one person I didn’t expect to see that I did see was a friend, Matt Daniels. Now, Matt is a missionary in Montevideo, Uruguay, so he was up in Memphis visiting his family. His dad actually is sick but it provided an opportunity for he and I to get together and just be friends again. I hadn’t seen him in probably 4 four years, but he used to be a very special person in my life. He was somewhat of a mentor for me and helped as I was growing in my faith and growing in ministry and all the other things that are wrapped up in that. So I really appreciated seeing him.

Sermon July 14, 2007 : The importance of listening well
God is always speaking in some way and the question is, are we listening? I want to look at one example in the Book of Acts, chapter 10. I’m going to look at the example of the Apostle Peter allowing himself to be taught or spoken to by the Lord, and that is one example because it combines a few different modes of God communicating.
