Mark Mueller : Update May 2005

Posted in Mark Mueller

Every year I participate in a rehab team with colleagues from the states. The trip has two parts: a conference and a practicum for the physical therapy students. The conference is open to all who work in the rehab field. This year the conference theme was stroke rehab.

The University of Honduras has a physical therapy program at a para-professional level. We do a practicum with the students for a week at a clinic in a rural area.

Part of my vision is to support institutions in the training of their students or personnel. This trip is an excellent opportunity to support the therapy that exists in Honduras and thus fulfill part of my vision.

Hands of Mercy is a mission project which provides physical therapy for children with motor problems. The mission is located at the Living Love (Amor Viviente) church, in La Ceiba, Honduras. Currently we see 14 children weekly for therapy at the clinic at the church.

Volunteer Training:

In this month of May I began teaching a training course in pediatric physical therapy. Eight people are taking the class who will work as volunteers with children in the therapy clinic.
